Simona Prives

Simona Prives creates collages that are a combination of maps, screen prints and found material. Initially, geological and industrial maps are disassembled and reconfigured turning worlds that are familiar into the abstract. Then screen prints, paper and found materials are overlaid onto the piece.

The artist’s work is about locating ourselves in the built and natural environments at this particular moment in history. The focus is on the process of decomposition and reconstruction, the dialectic of growth and decay, and the examination of our complex relationship between the organic and the man-made.

Having won the New York MTA’s extremely rigorous competition, Simona’s work was installed on all 52 screens available at the Fulton Street MTA Station in NYC.

Simona lives and works in New York City.
